Thinking, Fast and Slow

by Daniel Kahneman

Kahneman reveals the dual systems that drive our thinking — fast, intuitive System 1 and slow, deliberate System 2 — and the cognitive biases that lead us astray.

My Review

Essential reading for anyone in finance or data analysis. Kahneman's framework on cognitive biases — anchoring, loss aversion, framing effects — directly applies to how we interpret financial data and make business decisions. The insight that our intuitions are systematically flawed transformed how I approach forecasting and risk assessment. This book made me a more skeptical and rigorous analyst. I return to the chapters on regression to the mean and the planning fallacy whenever I need to challenge my own assumptions about projections and targets.
